The View from the Trail

I take my initial inspiration from the historic USGS topo maps that show our wonderful mountains and rivers that provide scenic and recreational opportunities everywhere you look. This map is from 1887 and includes various file stamps and handwritten labels. I then used my drafting equipment to create a trail that winds its way through the county and up to the sky. Other simple shapes are used to show the variety of cacti, trees, grasses, wildflowers, as well as a group of ravens, and a black bear. I use watercolors to untangle all the lines into their respective features.
